Prayers for Vitoria

I ask you, readers, to please pray for baby Vitoria of Brazil. She has a form of anencephaly/acrania and is currently in the hospital. She was born in January and is still going strong --praise God! Lord, please continue to sustain Vitoria and her mother and bless them with many more beautiful days together. Please bless Vitoria with good health and allow her to come home and spend time with Mommy outside of the hospital. We thank you for this miracle, this wonderful life you have created. I received this prayer request today:

My mom volunteers with a hospice and has been paired for a few months with a young couple expecting their first baby. The baby was diagnosed with anencephaly. The mother received many of the same reactions you did from nurses and doctors when she decided to continue the pregnancy. She and many others were praying for miraculous healing. Baby (boy) was born last week. His parents were blessed to spend 8 hours with him before he went home to be with Jesus. My mom went to the hospital shortly after his mom gave birth. She said there was some difficulty with the extended family because they didn't understand the diagnosis and that nothing could really be done. After baby (boy) passed away, his mother was in shock and mourning that I can't begin to imagine. After all these months of emotion, this mother now has to bury her child and this is where my prayer request comes in. The funeral is going to cost around $7000. This is a low income family who has no idea where they will come up with the money to bury their sweet boy. My heart is breaking for this family I have never met and I have been racking my brain to think of a way to help. Please pray that God would provide for this family that they would be able to have a funeral and say goodbye to their baby. Pray for peace and comfort for them.

Father, please provide this family with the necessary funds to have a funeral for their baby boy. I cannot imagine what they are feeling right now as they want to have a funeral for him but don't have the means to pay for it. Please comfort them as they mourn the loss of their baby, and give them Your peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Juliana, Zoe, and Eden

4:22 PM - Juliana Skye 1 lb. 5 oz.
4:23 PM - Zoe Janine 1 lb. 2.5 oz.
4:24 PM - Eden Aurelia 1 lb. 3 oz.

Eden was born with a tracheoesophageal fistula and sustained a catastrophic brain hemorrhage the next morning. She passed away in our arms October 26 at 10:40 p.m.

Juliana and Zoe are both in the most critical condition. 24 weeks of gestation is about the youngest a baby can be and potentially survive. Here is their current status:

*Juliana:* She is stable. Her ventilator settings are low, which means she is breathing well, just needs a little assistance. They were able to start a drug to close her ductus so that her body can more efficiently use her oxygenated blood. The nurses call her a little superstar because of her progress. Despite her progress, she is still categorized in the highest category of critical condition and requires constant adjustment of her medicine.

*Zoe:* She had a life-threatening event on the morning of the 27th, but the NICU staff were able to stabilize her. She is on an oscillator for breathing and they are trying to rest her body. She has received several blood transfusions and is on different medicines. From the event yesterday, the head ultrasound has shown some serious cranial hemorrhaging. She is getting another ultrasound this morning to check again. She is receiving the maximum amount of care available and is in as precarious a position as one can be.

Erin is in the hospital right now and she is asking for our prayers. Erin is 27 weeks along with a baby girl. She is having bleeding and cramping and the doctors suspect that the baby hasn't grown in the last three weeks. Please lift up your prayers for Erin and her baby. Three little wee babies

Today I was asked to pray for three little babies who were recently implanted into their adopted mother's womb. I personally don't approve of in-vitro fertilization treatments but if these babies were already created then it is good that they were implanted into an adoptive parent and not discarded. Please pray that all three of them will "stick" to mommy's womb and that all three will grow and thrive. I'm sure the doctors are only expecting one or two to survive, but it is very possible that all three will make it. So please keep these little ones in your prayers. Father, please protect these three vulnerable little babies through this process. We ask for your hand on the lives of these three children as they grow inside the womb, and even after they are born. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

I'm happy to report that everything is fine with Ashley's baby :) Thankfully she did not have a miscarriage and that is a pretty big miracle considering her symptoms.

Chloe was doing well the last time I heard an update from Nancy, but she still needs your prayers, so please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers (and remember, if you're on Facebook, there is a group you can join to see how baby Chloe is doing and find out how you can pray for her).

Twins Sam and Luke are still in their mommy's belly and coming along nicely! Sam has been diagnosed with anencephaly so we're praying that his mommy Harriet, daddy, and big sister can have lots and lots of time with him once he's born. As far as I know, everything is fine with Sam's brother Luke.

My friend Jennifer is over 11 weeks pregnant now and is at a higher than normal risk for pregnancy complications, so please pray for her little one as he (or she) grows. She had an ultrasound yesterday and everything seemed good! Go baby go :)

That is all for now... sometimes I receive prayer requests and then I never here any updates, and so I don't post updates here, but I'm sure that every prayer helps, even when we don't see the result. Urgent prayer request - baby Kelly

"I want to ask you to pray for a friend of mine. Her name is Nancy ____ and she had her baby girl today, just before 11 this morning. Nancy was told that baby Kelly would not likely survive birth. She suffered strokes causing multiple complications after her twin died in the womb at the end of the first trimester. Nancy chose to continue with the pregnancy and has shown great faith in the Lord to see her through the uncertain pregnancy. I am not sure of all of the complication, but ultrasounds and MRIs showed that Kelly had very little brain function and that her brain stem was deformed and twisted and small. Her legs are deformed and crossed indian style. I think she also had kidney and heart issues. Little Kelly is currently defying all the doctors claims. She is still alive after 10 hours. She was a whopping 9lbs 15 oz. at birth and although she was born blue due to a low heart rate, she perked right up when she was put in momma's arms. She is trying to eat and seems to be doing well. Please say a prayer for them. Nancy and her husband, Jeff, prayed that they would get a few hours with Kelly before she passed. Thanks for your prayers."

Another angel in Heaven

I'm very sad to say that little Nevaeh has gone to Heaven so soon :'( I am happy that Mia and her family got to spend one whole hour with their little angel, but so sad that they did not have more time with her. God, please comfort the Spiker family and help us to remember that Nevaeh is not lost, but is in Heaven with You, alive and well. I don't have any fear for our little babies who die so young, because I have confidence in Jesus Christ; that he receives them all with open arms. A young man named Ryan (who is 14 and has autism) left yesterday morning on a camping trip with his dad and went missing. I was asked to pray for his safe return. Minutes later, I received an update that Ryan's body had been found, and that he had drowned.

Please pray for Ryan's family now, as they cope with the shock and the unimagineable pain of their loss.

Sam and Luke

Sam and Luke are twin boys who I've been praying for over the past several weeks. I am finally posting this prayer request for them and their family. Luke has no physical anomalies, but Sam has been diagnosed with anencephaly. I have seen ultrasound pictures of these boys and they are both beautiful. Luke looked very serene, while Sam looked like a feisty little guy! Momma Harriet says they are definitely rough-and-tumble boys inside her belly. Apparently peanut butter makes them hyper. Please pray for the safe delivery of Sam and Luke, and for the blessing of having time with Sam after he is born. Baby Amiee

Amiee Nicole was born at 3:06pm on July 25th. Like Faith, Aimee has anencephaly. And like Faith, she is pulling through nicely! Her mom says she is breathing very well on her own and cries when she wants something. She has a cleft palate (Faith did too actually) but is swallowing milk and eating pretty well. She chokes a little bit (it's harder for our babies to coordinate sucking and swallowing) but is doing just fine. She is even cooing, which is funny because normally babies wouldn't coo for a couple of months, but babies with anencephaly are often advanced in certain areas: cooing, smiling, and doing other things way before they are supposed to! Aimee's mother, Mary, is so so thankful for this miracle. Please pray for Amiee and her family... that God would bless them with many more days with their little sweetie.

My plea to fellow Canadians

Our country is known for its beauty... wide open spaces, breath-taking landscapes, and friendly faces wherever you go. But behind all of that, we are living in a country of murder and injustice. There is a silent holocaust here that even Christians shy away from talking about. The truth is, a very large number of babies are being killed in our hospitals, by our doctors, and funded by our tax dollars. A woman here can have an abortion up to nine months of pregnancy, and no medical reason is required. In Canada, approximately 100 000 pregnancies end in abortion each year. That's nearly 1 in every 4 babies. We are the only common-wealth country to place no restrictions on abortion, and since 2008, it is government-funded in every province. The man who helped make this possible, Henry Morgentaller, received the highest honour in Canada, the Order of Canada. Does this information faze you in the least? To me, this is all very disturbing. These aren’t just statistics, they are real babies. They are your nieces and nephews, your cousins, your grandchildren, and your neighbours. Twenty-five percent of Canadian children, killed in our hospitals for “the good of society” –what does that say about us as a nation? It says we are a nation of ignorant murderers with no regard for human life. Really, it does. What does this say about us as Christians when we sit back and do nothing about it? It says we are lazy, worldly Christians choosing to walk the broad path like everyone else. It is those kinds of Christians who make up the majority, unfortunately. So this is my plea to you, please get off your seat and help us to fight this silent holocaust. We may never abolish abortion in Canada, but at least we can stand up for what’s right and make our voices heard. Don’t turn away and act like this isn’t happening –speak up, get involved, pray, demand change. Because if you don’t, the blood is on your hands too.

Michelle and baby Joyce Marie

I've been meaning to post this prayer request for a week now but I got a little side-tracked! Michelle is currently 34 weeks pregnant with her baby girl, Joyce Marie. Baby Joyce was also diagnosed with anencephaly. Michelle said last week that she had a doctor's appointment and she was measuring 41cm (when she should have only been around 33cm). She has some excess amniotic fluid and is having trouble breathing. It is also putting a lot of pressure on her back, causing discomfort. Her doctor said they could remove some of the fluid if necessary but Michelle is afraid that she might go into labour before then. She is feeling unprepared right now... she fears losing her baby girl and doesn't feel ready for the birth. I remember getting close to my due date and feeling so unprepared. I wanted my pregnancy to last for another nine months! Please keep Michelle and little Joyce in your prayers.

Prayers for Rosanna and the safe return of her 2-year-old daughter

Mommy Rosanna is asking for help in finding her 2-year-old daughter, Jeanette Caroline, who was kidnapped by her biological father when she was just 3 months old. Rosanna has received a couple of photos of her daughter since, but has no idea where she and this man are living now. She is worried about her daughter and missing her every second of the day :( The RCMP are investigating but we know that God knows exactly where she is at this very moment. Please pray that God will intervene and bring this little girl home to her mama and big brother. Rosanna has given me permission to post a photo of her Jeanette here.

Bennett went to Heaven

I am sad to say that little Bennett has passed on this evening :( I want to express my deepest condolences to mommy Tabitha and the rest of the family. While Bennett will forever be a miracle who defied the odds, he is going to be missed so so much. I am so glad that I got to see pictures of him and the video and got to hear his little voice... he has blessed my life.

Yay! The little guy is still doing great :) Tabitha is doing a terrific job caring for him. And it's not like caring for any other baby because our babies are made differently and their bodies sort of work differently. Only we who have cared for babies with this condition long-term really know (Me and my mom lol --we should write a book). Doctors have no clue. But she is doing a great job! She's keeping his head and chest elevated to help his breathing, which is good because our babies seem to have a harder time keeping inflammation down (that's normal if you don't have a pituitary gland telling your adrenal glands to produce the necessary hormones). And she convinced them to put a sterile dressing on his head, which is good! I am going out of town today and I won't be able to check for updates for a while --ahhh --but I would say Mommy and Bennett are getting ready to go home :) What a great feeling that will be when she gets to walk through those hospital doors with Bennet in his car seat. The victory trip hom! Congrats Tabitha! Your son is a miracle :)

Just wanted to let everybody know that Bennett is still doing great! Tabitha is loving motherhood and enjoying every moment with her little boy :) His breathing is still really good and she says his motor reflexes are getting stronger. I saw some pictures and in one of them he was sucking on mommy's finger hehe :) Too cute! It sounds to me like Bennett is a feisty little baby... he's not afraid to let mommy know he's hungy ;) Tabitha says he has let out a few good cries. Anyway, if all goes well tonight then she will be taking Bennett home with her tomorrow!!! And I believe with all my heart that she will :) Lots of smileys in this post! I am just so happy for her. She got her miracle. I am going to say a prayer for them and get to bed... will update again tomorrow!

Bennett Elijah arrived at 3:02 am! He weighs 7 pounds 3 ounces. His grandma says he is so precious, cooing and making little baby squeaks. He has sweet little lips that mommy loves to kiss and a cute little button nose. He has strawberry blonde hair and blonde eyelashes like mommy. He has one uncle's ears and another one's chin apparently lol... he has not opened his eyes yet but she peeked and they were blue.

I think it is a really good sign (brain function-wize) that Bennett is not opening his eyes. And I know it's a good sign that he is cooing and making sounds! Go Bennett Go :)

Update: Bennett is a little miracle! His breathing and heart rate are good and he is apparently lifting his head and being quite talkative. And, get this --he smiles when his mommy kisses him! His behaviour sounds exactly like Faith's when she was born, so I am very excited --because you know how well Faith did. May God continue to bless this family, and may Bennett continue to defy the odds!

I am going to bed now but I just wanted to let everyone know that Tabitha is still in labour and is dilated 4cm and is 70% effaced. They are asking that we continue to pray, and of course we will continue to do so. I will update again in the morning (well, morning for me) and let you know how mama and baby are doing. Tabitha is working SO hard... she's been in labour for days now. But it sounds like Bennett will be born very soon now. Please pray that Tabitha will have lots of time with Bennett. Remember, all things are possible with God. I am praying for a miracle and hoping that mommy will get to take her little boy home with her in a few days :)

Woman having twins, one has anencephaly

There is a woman out there... I don't know her name... but she recently found out that she is pregnant with twins, and one of the babies has anencephaly. Her doctor is telling her that she should terminate her pregnancy (and this is the really stupid part) because the baby with anencephaly is putting the other baby at risk. I dont know what kind of logic that is, but I would say he is a liar and just doesn't want to be bothered with a "complicated" pregnancy. Anyway, this woman is actually debating about whether or not she will continue her pregnancy. I have never understood why it was so hard to just NOT kill your babies, but I guess for some people it's hard. So please pray for her and her babies!!!

Update: Tabitha and Bennett

Tabitha is in the hospital and she's doing great! Mom is by her side and updating us on how she's doing. Tabitha checked herself into the hospital on Saturday night because her blood pressure was high and she was not feeling well. She says they put her in a "VIP" room with windows on both sides overlooking the city. Her nurses are apparently wonderful and feel so blessed to be apart of everything. They gave her Cervadil to ripen her cervix and Tabitha was hoping that would do the trick, so that they wouldn't need to administer Pitocin. Tabitha said Bennett was still kicking like crazy and is doing well. She said she felt very much at peace. Last night Tabitha was feeling exhausted and having a hard time resting in between contractions. The nurse gave her something to help her sleep and this morning she is feeling much more rested and able to cope with the contractions. Today might be the day! Please keep Tabitha, Bennett, and their family in prayer.

4:30pm: Tabitha was only 3 cm dilated (after all that work!) and her doctors were concerned that they might be overtaxing her uterus to no avail because of the slow progress. They gave her the option of stopping the meds and going home to rest for a few days, and said they'd be back to check on her in an hour.

They are praying and asking God for direction...

5:30pm: Mom Kristi writes, "The doctor came in to check. Tabitha was having good contractions on her own and is almost 4cm. Bennett also moved down one station. This leaves one more to go until full dilation occurs. The doctor decided to go ahead and start a light pitocin drip to augment the contractions. Please pray that progress continues to be made."

Tabitha and baby Bennett

My friend Tabitha, who I met months ago while I was pregnant with Faith, is getting ready to have her little boy (Bennett) any day now! She will be 42 weeks this Tuesday and is really hoping to go into labour naturally and not have to be induced with Pitocin. She has quite a bit of "poly" (excess amniotic fluid), which is making her uncomfortable, and has been having some issues with high blood pressure. She has been monitoring her Bp closely, and if it goes above 140/90 then her doctor gave her instructions to go right to the hospital. So please pray about those things... And pray for a miracle! Bennett was diagnosed with anencephaly, just like Faith. Tabitha has been praying all these months for God to do the impossible --what men consider impossible anyway. But we know that with God, all things are possible. Why do I get the feeling that Bennett is going to be the next miracle baby... the next one to defy the odds? I don't know. Lift up your prayers and see what God does :) Love you, Tabitha!

Prayers for Loren and her baby

My friend Loren is currently 32 weeks pregnant with her baby, who was also diagnosed with anencephaly. She has been having some complications because she has an excess amount of amniotic fluid and it is putting pressure on the scar tissue of her incision site (from a previous c-section). It is causing her pain and the doctor is worried that she might tear if there is too much pressure on the incision. She has also been having some contractions, and it is quite early for those to start. So please take a moment to pray for Loren and her baby, so that they will both be kept safe. Thanks!

June 11 Update: Loren was booked for a c-section at 12:30 today. I know this has all come on so fast, but you have lots of people praying for you, Loren! We'll be praying and waiting for an update.

Update: Loren writes, "My baby girl is with Jesus. Nevaeh Shari Hope was born at 1:17pm and passed away around 2:25pm. What a blessing it was to hold and kiss her. And I have a lot of joy thinking about my mom greeting her and bragging and showing her off to everyone in Heaven."
